Dear friends,

This letter had been prepared, and the online service had been recorded and uploaded before hearing the news of the death of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on Friday; a short sequence has been added to Farleigh’s online service, at the start, so please forgive the absence of mentioning his passing in the rest of the service.

The Sunday after Easter is often called “Low Sunday” – meaning that Easter is a “High” event with lots of celebrations, whereas the following week is both low in attendance and lower in expectation. But every Sunday should be an Easter event, as the early Christians moved from worshipping on a Saturday as the seventh day of the week, in line with Judaism, to Sundays, for Jesus rose from the dead on the first day of the week – linking of course God’s Creation of all things in Genesis- “in the beginning”, to Jesus and the New Creation, – of life in the Spirit, knowing God personally, and the inauguration of the Kingdom of God in the present, instead of looking forward a long way to it eventually coming about a long time hence.

So maybe this Sunday, as we continue to sing (or hum) the Easter hymns, we will continue to be in the fellowship and joy of a risen living Saviour, and to remember HRH Prince Philip now will be in that place and experience of the full presence of His Saviour. We grieve with hope.

The success of the Lent “Bible Course” giving an outline of the whole Bible narrative has shown what some information can do for our Christian Faith. David is happy to run it again either evenings or daytime for anyone who wants to expand their Christian faith – so please let him know.
